‘Bail Is the Rule, Jail the Exception’: Supreme Court Criticizes High Courts for Routinely Denying Bail and Setting Trial Deadlines.

On Monday, November 25, the Supreme Court granted bail to a man accused of counterfeiting currency, emphasizing the principle that “bail is the rule and jail is the exception.” The man had been in custody for two and a half years.

The Court observed, “The appellant has been incarcerated for two and a half years. The state’s counter shows no prior criminal record. Therefore, considering the facts of the case, the appellant deserves to be released on bail, in line with the well-established principle that bail is the rule and jail is the exception.”
